With summer comes a busy season of travel plans. One of the toughest parts about getting away is narrowing down my packing list to just the essentials. Although I’m always tempted to bring my entire wardrobe, I usually keep things simple with the most versatile, multitasking pieces. This typically translates into easy one pieces, light layers, basics, and denim to accommodate all the different activities that can come up.
Lately, I have been loving Banana Republic’s summer collection, which is right up my alley for travel style. The selection of simple dresses, comfy basics, and natural accessories all come together to make some stellar vacation outfits. Since many of you are probably planning your summer trips now, I thought it’d be the perfect time to share the summer essentials I always pack.
1. Linen dress
Linen is always ideal for summer getaways because it’s breathable and will keep you cool. This linen dress is such a beautiful piece for summer. The length is perfect and I love that it isn’t too low cut, making it appropriate for day or night. In today’s post, I styled it two different ways to show you guys how a pair of heels and change of jacket can make a big difference. I’m also loving the flounce hem and square neckline, which gives it a modern update. Versatile dresses are always great for travel because they take up less luggage space. Make sure you browse through Banana Republic’s dress collection because there are so many great options for summer from floral maxis to basic knit styles.
2. Lightweight Jacket
A lightweight jacket makes the perfect outfit topper even on the hottest days. During the day, I prefer a denim jacket but will usually change it out for a leather jacket come nightfall as this creates an edgier and elevated look. You can layer them over dresses, skirts, and basic tees when the air conditioning is blasting inside somewhere – or in case it gets chilly at night.
3. Summery Bag
Woven and straw bags have been all the rage these last few seasons and I’m here for them. They’re a great summer staple that looks as good in the city as they do on the beach. I prefer a classic tote style bag as they usually hold more – and they look perfect against linen dresses.
4. Versatile Sandals
When traveling, I usually try to pack the fewest amount of shoes because they’re so heavy. Minimalist sandals, whether lace-up flats or heels, look great with just about any summer look you can imagine. Wear them with jeans or a dress and they work for all occasions.
5. Coin Necklaces
Coin necklaces have also been super popular this year, and I can’t get enough of them. They’re so simple yet elegant against dresses and basic tops. I love layering my coin necklaces with other styles for more of a statement look. They especially look beautiful against beige dresses and neutral outfits.
What pieces do you guys pack on your summer trips?
