You guys can probably tell that I’m all about a great pair of jeans. Being the California girl that I am at heart, I’ll usually wear jeans for every occasion if I can get away with it. And that’s often the case in the summer, which is just around the corner. I consider it one of those comfy wardrobe staples that can be worn day in and day out. And I love how it transitions flawlessly from day to night. If you guys are in need of inventive ways to wear your old denim pieces, I wanted to share some of my go-to tips for dressing up jeans. Don’t hesitate to slip on your favorite pair for your next night out or special event.
1. Paired with statement heels
If you’re not up for matching a silky feminine top to denim, dressing up your jeans is still possible. My favorite way is to grab a pair of statement heels and use it as my outfit’s centerpiece. This is also a trick I use for pulling off denim on denim outfits. Just make sure you’re wearing cropped jeans or at least cuff them so the shoes can really stand out.
2. Opt for a dark wash
When in doubt, go for a dark wash. Although I love casual, effortless style, I always want to look polished and put together. This explains why I’m usually reaching for clean black jeans. Naturally, they look dressier and will elevate your most casual tops, especially with a pair of pumps. You can even pull them off during office hours with a crisp button down top.
3. Pair with silky pieces
Denim is often viewed as too stiff and uncomfortable for occasions that warrant a dressier look. However, it can be elevated with a satin blouse or silk camisole. These luxe fabrics always look so striking when teamed with the heavier weight of denim – and it also creates an ultra cool and chic everyday vibe. You can then play up the simple outfit with accessories and dainty jewelry.
4. Add a chic jacket
You’ll be surprised at what a structured jacket can do for a pair of skinny jeans. I’ll often layer tailored jackets over a plain t-shirt or tank because it instantly dresses up basics. Whether you prefer an oversized blazer, tweed or a moto jacket, a little bit of structure will take you a long way.
5. Tucked in with a belt
Tucking a sexy blouse into your jeans always adds a touch of sophistication. You can then complete the look with a stunning gold-hardware belt and sleek booties. If you follow me at all on Instagram, then you probably notice this is a styling trick I often utilize to my advantage. It never fails to look fresh!
